When the NHL first started pushing outdoor games, they were something special. A New Years festival of hockey in its purest form. What made them even more fun to watch was the lead up to the game where we’d get the HBO 24/7 series. It was a documentary series that took viewers behind the scenes of the teams and the players as they traveled the road of an NHL season leading up to the Winter Classic on New Years Day.
It’s that style of programming that I love as a sportscaster. Any chance you get a behind the scenes look, you learn something. With the 24/7 series it was a look at how players prepare, how they travel, their family commitments, team routines and much more…but what about a look at sportscasters?
Thankfully, Canadian sportscaster Darren Dupont has answered that call by beginning a behind the scenes look at his work titled “On the Road”. The first episode dropped earlier this month with promises of more. If they’re anything like the first one, I’m a fan and will be watching closely. Check out the first episode below, and subscribe to Darren’s Channel for more.
