Richard Deitsch with SI has created a gem of a podcast for broadcasters both professional and aspiring. As of this writing, he’s 6 episodes into the “SI Media Podcast” where he interviews some of the key figures in sports media. What is most enjoyable about the podcast is that he doesn’t just focus on one sport, or a small section of announcers, but rather a wide array of stories, perspectives and experiences in broadcasting from a wide array of personalities.
With interviews with Verne Lundqvist, NBC’s Rebecca Lowe and ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt already completed, Deitsch added NBC hockey annoucer Doc Emrick to the collection on June 4th. The podcast features a lengthy interview with Emrick on his beginnings, his vast vocabulary, his game day routine and he even answered a few Twitter questions. Not to be out-done, Donna Brothers give a fascinating insight to one of the most unique jobs in broadcasting, as she is often the first interviewer to speak with winning jockey’s on horseback immediately after races.
The episode is well worth a listen here (via Soundcloud) and the podcast overall is a must subscribe (iTunes).
